ORLANDO JOHNSON

Lobster Quartet, Purple, 2015

acrylic on four canvases 24x32”

Winning Bid: $525

Auction to benefit

New Hope for Women

Closed 31 October 2015

October 2015: Black Hole and Orlando Johnson are supporting Rockland-based organization, New Hope for Women and their work to end domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

October is designated Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the gallery, along with other businesses in town, was asked to display purple in observance of this, and to show support to the crucial work of New Hope for Women, and those they help.

You will see purple lights in many shop windows on Main Street.  We collaborated with Orlando Johnson for the gallery’s display, and he has created a ‘quartet’ of his iconic lobsters in purple for the occasion.  While we hope that having them on view will be a strong visual display of our support, we are hoping we can take things one step further:

Lobster Quartet, Purple is being auctioned, and the gallery and artist will donate all proceeds from its sale to New Hope for Women.

As a gallery, we feel privileged to have a couple of banners on display by Jamien Morehouse; and Johnson cites her work as an early and lasting influence on, and inspiration for, his.  In 1992, she established an annual Christmas “Hat Show” to benefit New Hope for Women, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to follow her great example.

To place a bid on the piece, please email us at the gallery  with your contact information, and the maximum you would like to bid (bids will increase in increments of $50).  Alternatively, you can call us, or stop by in person!  We will confirm your bid, and inform you if someone outbids you.
